As a result of Helen’s very generous friends and family SAGT will be able to sponsor two teachers due to the success of the party fundraising. Helen’s birthday donations have reached almost £1400 so far. This means that Mariam, who teaches at Xavier Nursery School, will be sponsored immediately. Helen met Mariam at her school in The Gambia in January 2015. Mariam is currently in her second year and has already received her course fees and monthly allowance for this year. She will also be supported during her final year of training in 2015 / 2016 as she seeks to qualify from The Gambia College, Brikama.
The extra funds made available means that another student can begin their 3 year course in September. At this moment in time we are waiting for the new student teachers to be confirmed by the committee of the Early Childhood Development Association (ECDA). We are hoping for a bumper year following some very generous donations. More on this to follow soon. Watch this space!
