New arrivals and other news…

Congratulations to Jack on the birth of his son Thomas!

Also two days after we arrived in The Gambia, Mariam gave birth to her second son, younger brother of Musa. Mariam and her husband Abdou decided to name him Alhassan Steve. Yes … in gratitude to SAGT for her sponsorship she decided to name him Steve Junior! Congratulations to Mariam for also achieving a credit in her final exams.

In other news …
Another teacher who qualified this year has gained promotion as a result of her teacher training. Maimuna who works at the Yundum Barracks School is now Sergeant Maimuna!

Joko who was working on a temporary basis at Jambanjelli has now secured a permanent place at Almadina School.

Philip at Mansa Colley has returned to training to study for a Higher Teaching Certificate (HTC) Good luck to him.

Thankfully the political difficulties were sorted peacefully and President Adama Barrow was able to take up his position following support from ECOWAS, a collective of West African states. We were able to witness first hand the optimism amongst the Gambian people as they enjoyed the prospect of a better future. Indeed, we even got invited to one of the many celebrations to welcome the new president, that were taking place all over the country.

Interviews for the next cohort have finished and offers of sponsorship are being made. More news on the student teachers who will be sponsored … very soon.

Finally, the next newsletter is now complete. If you would like a copy please email Steve and you will receive one very soon after. If you are a sponsor or supporter, then a copy will be posted to you this summer.
